International Alliance Of Women

Objectives and Mission: 

Secure all such reforms as necessary to establish a real [equality] of liberties, status and opportunities between men and women and work for equal partnership between men and women in all spheres of life; urge women to accept their [responsibilities] and use their [rights] and influence in public life to ensure that the status of every individual, without distinction of sex, race or creed, is based on respect for the person, the only guarantee for individual freedom and peace; promote a better quality of life and good understanding among peoples.

General description: 

Organizes: Triennial Congress with workshops to formulate and Action Programme for next triennium, which is then approved in plenary sessions; Regional Board Meeting and Seminar (annual), with follow-up workshops and projects. Priorities for 2005-2007: human rights - women's rights; globalization; civil and political rights; education for all - legal literacy; poverty; violence, including - (a) trafficking in women and children, (b) domestic violence, (c) violence in general; health; nutrition; environment and habitat. Cooperates with other NGOs and with the United Nations specialized agencies on: peace and security; nationality of married women; equal pay and discrimination in employment; discrimination in education; slavery and suppression of traffic in persons; elimination of discrimination against women and girls; equal access to technology and resources.
