To cultivate and develop better understanding, to promote co-operation among the women of the Balkan countries.
Priority issues: Women’s advancement in development; intercultural dialogue; promotion of ethnic cultural identities.
Main activities: AIWCS organizes yearly congresses, dealing with topics agreed upon by the General Assembly, workshops, seminars and cultural events. The last Congress was held on the theme of “Rural Women’s Role in the Development of Balkan Countries” in 1997, which was attended by 457 participants from 17 countries and from intergovernmental organizations such as UN, UNESCO, FAO, WHO, IFAD, World Bank and Council of Europe. The Platform for Action in favour of Balkan Women adopted at the Congress is a basis of AIWCS’s activities.
