iMarine Data e-Infrastructure Initiative for Fisheries Management

Marine life plays a vital role in the Earth's ecosystem. Wise and judicious management of all resources is of paramount importance to ensure that marine life remains sustainable.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

iMarine is a global, open and collaborative initiative supporting the Ecosystem Approach to fisheries management and the conservation of living marine resources. Through its e-infrastructure, iMarine provides open access to richer and timely science-based knowledge related to aquatic resources. By interconnecting all actors operating in different domains around common data and information, iMarine facilitates the emergence of a more unified and effective Ecosystem Approach Community Practice.

RESULTS

iMarine Data has

  • Contributed to the sustainable management and protection of marine and coastal ecosystems;
  • Increased scientific knowledge to improve ocean health and to enhance the contribution of marine biodiversity to the development of developing countries.
