On 17 March, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova signed at Paris Headquarters a cooperation agreement with the Bulgarian News Agency, represented by its Director-General Maxim Minchev.

Established as early as in 1898, the Agency is a major and reliable source of information to the print and electronic media in Bulgaria.

“I am delighted and honoured that the Bulgarian News Agency is partnering with UNESCO on communication, awareness raising and outreach. This is an essential part of UNESCO's efforts to mobilize partners from civil society and, in particular, from the media for the achievement of its strategic goals. We need strong allies to promote social, political and economic development through education, the sciences, culture and communication”, stated Irina Bokova after signing the agreement.

The Director-General of the Bulgarian News Agency Maxim Minchev expressed his satisfaction with the newly established partnership affirming that “The Agency will spread UNESCO’s message of peace, tolerance and sustainability.

Under the new agreement, UNESCO and the Bulgarian News Agency will carry out, through joint and concerted cooperation, common projects to contribute to the promotion and dissemination of information about the Organization’s priorities and activities.
