UNESCO launches Learning Disability Manual in Khartoum

18 June 2015

UNESCO Khartoum office and Ministry of Education of Sudan, the Department of Special Education, launched on 7th of June 2015 the Learning Disability Manual. This manual is one of the deliveries of the UNESCO extrabudgetary project “Promoting Access to Education and Health for Children with Disabilities”, funded by the Joint UN Partnership, and managed by the UNESCO Khartoum Office in close cooperation with the UNESCO Beirut office.

The project started in January of 2015 with an orientation workshop when the partners – Sudan Ministry of Education, National Council for People with Disabilities, UNICEF, and WHO – gained a full understanding of the original materials prepared in UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States, Beirut,  and discussed how to adapt them to the Sudanese context. Then, during the following months, a committee from National Center for Curriculum and Educational Research went on discussions, meetings and consultations in different groups of professionals to reach the final version of the content of the manual.

The event was organized at the Ministry of Education in Khartoum and honored by HE. The undersecretary of the Ministry led the event with participation of other ministry officials, UNESCO, and UNICEF. The success of the event was underlined by its very warm atmosphere.
