UNESCO Director-General deeply saddened by passing of Rony Koven, staunch advocate of UNESCO’s mandate for media freedom

On behalf of UNESCO, and in her own name, the UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, expressed deep condolences to the friends and family of Rony Koven, after his passing on 30 October, 2015.

“Rony was one of the world’s greatest champions for freedom of expression and media freedoms,” said Irina Bokova. “He was a man of tremendous moral stature, an outstanding advocate in standing up for the human rights and dignity of women and men across the world.”

A journalist with a long and distinguished career, Rony Koven was an ardent ambassador for freedom of expression and press freedoms, including as the European Representative of the World Press Freedom Committee.
