First event in the National Radio was organized by the Khartoum office of UNESCO, Sudanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, and Radio and TV General Corporation (RTGC). The event took place in Al-Azhari Radio Studio of the National Radio in Omdurman.
The event was honored by H.E. Mr. Fabrizio Lobasso, the Ambassador of Italy to Sudan, H.E. Dr. Pavel Kroupkine, the Head of the Khartoum office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan, Dr. Al Zubair Osman Ahmed, the General Manager of RTGC, Dr. Vincenzo Racalbuto, the Director of the Italian Agency for the Development Cooperation, and Dr. Abd Almahmod Alnoor, the Sudanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture. Numerous representatives of private TV and radio channels operating in Khartoum / Omdurman / Bahri metropolis, broadcasters, administrators and technicians from the RTGC participated in the event.
During the event, the National Radio broadcasted speeches to the public – from 11:30 to 13:00 pm.
The speakers of the event highlighted the importance of radio for people, commemorated the history of radio in Sudan, paid tribute to UNESCO for the World Radio Day establishing, etc. Dr. Pavel Kroupkine delivered to the audience the message of H.E. Ms. Irina Bokova, the Director General of UNESCO, on occasion of the World Radio Day 2017, and confirmed the readiness of UNESCO for cooperation with the media sector in Sudan, putting special attention to the field of community radios. He also overviewed a project for strengthening the rural broadcasting in the Eastern States of Sudan, generously funded by the Italian Republic.
In the final part of the event, the General Manager of the RTGC in presence of the UNESCO Representative awarded two veterans of the National Radio.
Second event, the musical gala evening, was organized by the Capital Radio in Casa d’Italia – the residence of the Italian Ambassador. This event was honored by numerous members of the diplomatic community including UNESCO Representative, members of the Sudanese radio community, other VIPs. Welcome speeches of H.E. Mr. Fabrizio Lobasso, the Ambassador of Italy to Sudan, Mr. Taha Elroubi, the Managing Director of the Capital Radio, and Dr. Pavel Kroupkine, the Head of the Khartoum office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan, were followed by live music presented by several Sudanese bands and artists.
With great enthusiasm, the participant of both events in the Khartoum / Omdurman / Bahri metropolis accepted an idea to contribute to the next year celebration (WRD 2018) making it even better than now.
