Libreville held the first Salon of Youth Entrepreneurs (SYE) on Saturday, 30 January 2016. The SYE aims at promoting and fostering youth entrepreneurship in Gabon. During the Salon, there were discussions in panel, workshops and keynote presentations. All speakers oriented their interventions towards sharing experiences and advising young participants on the benefit and how to start their own projects.

At the opening of the salon, Mr. Xavier Ndong Ndong, Chargé de mission of the Presidency, stated that SYE is in line with Government's strategy (sic. Plan Stratégique Gabon Emergent) to support private investment and further youth engagement in entrepreneurship. Such engagement will allow them to play an important role in the socio-economic development of the nation.

The government has adopted several worthwhile measures to, among other, simplify the financing of young entrepreneurs initiatives. Therefore, the government has created entities such as the National Agency for Investments (ANPI) and set up a national award: “Grand Prix de l’Excellence”.

SYE saw the presence of institutions like National Agency for Investments, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba's Foundation for Family, Programme GRAINE, Executive office for public procurement and UNESCO.

Some of the topics discussed at conferences and workshops include “Youth entrepreneurship: a way out of unemployment”; “Access to public procurement and State programs” and “Female entrepreneurs: the key for success and growth”.

The UNESCO's Representative to Gabon took the opportunity to present the international competition “Tremplin for social entrepreneurship and a culture of peace” established by UNESCO. In fact, UNESCO and the Center for Strategic and Prospective Studies (CEPS) will organized the third edition - “Tremplin Gabon” - this year (2016) in Libreville. Both partners launched the competition at a ceremony on January 12, 2016. The objective of « Tremplin Gabon » is to promote young (21 to 35 years old) entrepreneurs active in social, cultural and environmental sectors. During his speech, the UNESCO's Representative gave the main eligibility criteria and invited young entrepreneurs to register for the competition.
