Radio-broadcast about a role of radio in times of disaster and emergency

On the 11th of February 2016 from 14:00 till 15:00 the ED specialist of the Khartoum office Dr. Aiman Badri participated in a radio-transmission of the Omdurman National Radio Station linked to World Radio Day. The theme of the transmission was “A role of radio in times of disaster and emergency”. Other participant of the transmission was the general manager of Sudan National Radio Dr. Salah Eltoum. Main points tackled during the broadcast were:

  • World Radio Day, its background, context and mission. UNESCO and World Radio Day.
  • Message of the General Director of UNESCO in occasion of World Radio Day, importance of radio in times of disaster and emergency.
  • Celebration of World Radio Day in Khartoum / Omdurman / Bahri metropolis: its venue, time, agenda. Call to radio professionals and to public to come on Saturday, the 13th of February 2016, at 14:00 to the National Radio premises to enjoy the socialization and communication with each other.

On the 12th of February 2016 from 22:00 till 23:45 the ED specialist of the Khartoum office Dr. Aiman Badri, participated in a radio-transmission of the Sudanese House Radio Station linked to World Radio Day. The theme of the transmission was “A role of radio in times of disaster and emergency”. Other participant was the general manager of Sudan Community Radio Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Briama. Main points tackled during the broadcast:

  • World Radio Day, its context and mission. UNESCO and World Radio Day.
  • Message of the General Director of UNESCO in occasion of World Radio Day, importance of radio in times of disaster and emergency. The message in Arabic was announced by the presenter of the radio-program Ms. Limya Motwakel.
  • Celebration of World Radio Day in Khartoum / Omdurman / Bahri metropolis: its venue, time, agenda. Call to radio professionals and to public to come on Saturday, the 13th of February 2016, at 14:00 to the National Radio premises to enjoy the socialization and communication with each other.
  • Importance of the community radio. Dr. Aiman expressed UNESCO’s interest to promote the concept of the community radio and work with national partners developing it. Dr. Mohamed overviewed the background for the community radios in general, described the situation with it in Sudan, and gave several examples how the community radios could support hosting communities in times of disasters and emergencies.
