The Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO has ensured the translation of the UNESCO Teacher’s Manual on ‘Heritage for Peace and Reconciliation: Safeguarding the Underwater Cultural Heritage of the First World War’ into Portuguese, adding to its English and French versions.
The UNESCO Teacher’s Manual is part of a package provided in support of the UNESCO educational project ‘Heritage for Peace and Reconciliation’, which also includes films and a brochure. The Heritage for Peace and Reconciliation project will help educators to introduce the concepts of dialogue, peace and reconciliation based on the understanding of tangible heritage into their curriculum. The book focusses for this purpose on the underwater cultural heritage vestiges remaining from World War I, in occasion of the centenary of that conflict.
Thanks to the Portuguese National Commission, the Portuguese version of the Teacher’s Manual will help Portuguese speaking educators to understand and introduce the protection of cultural heritage into their curricula and therefore to raise the public awareness of the protection of cultural heritage in Portuguese speaking countries and areas.
