Launched IHP Web site for the Arab and African countries

A Web site, addressing the issue of lack of communication between the National Commissions of the countries involved into activities of the International Hydrology Programme (IHP), was presented during the workshop, organized by the Sudanese National commission for UNESCO – IHP Committee of Sudan and the Regional Center on  Water Harvesting, established newly in Sudan. The Web site aims to facilitate the interaction and joint programming through networking between the Arab and African IHP bodies.

The workshop was held in Khartoum on 9th -11th June 2015, and was supported by the Water Research Center of University of Khartoum, and by the Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity of Sudan. The Minister of Education of Sudan (President of the Sudanese NatCom), and the Minister of Water Resources and Electricity welcomed the participants, so as the representative of the UNESCO Cairo office, and the representatives of the Arab G-Wadi, African G-Wadis and Arab IHP NatComs.

In total there were twenty-three participants, who came from Egypt, Oman, Jordan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and Sudan. The workshop included theoretical and practical sessions strengthening the capacity to enrich sharing and exchanging by programmatic information between the Arab and African IHP committees and the G-Wadis network, addressing the issues of water management in Arid zones.
