On 29 November, 2015, the UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova met with H.E. Abdel Fattah al-Sissi President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in Paris.
The President congratulated the Director General for the 70th anniversary of the Organisation and for the important work in safeguarding cultural heritage as well as in education, across the world.
The President and the Director General discussed the threat posed by the rise of violent extremism, and youth radicalisation, and the importance of UNESCO's action for youth engagement, media literacy and education to counter violent extremism.
