Implementation of the International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013

On 28 November the draft resolution ‘Implementation of the International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013’ was adopted by consensus in the United Nations General Assembly. Among other events to mark the Year, a High-Level Interactive Dialogue of the sixty-seventh session of the General Assembly will be convened in New York on 22 March 2013, which will also commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the proclamation of World Water Day. The official World Water Day event dedicated to water cooperation will be held in The Hague. The resolution emphasizes that water is critical for sustainable development and the eradication of poverty and hunger, and indispensable for human health and well-being. It also acknowledges the importance of cooperation at all levels for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals on water and sanitation.
