UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova met with the Executive Chairman and Founder of the World Economic Forum, Professor Klaus Schwab, on 23 January 2016, in Davos.
She commended the Annual Meeting’s breadth of engagement with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and expressed appreciation for his insightful analysis of global challenges developed in “The Fourth Industrial Revolution,” concurring with his call for inclusive approaches.
The Director General exchanged with him on the vital importance of investment in education and skills to build resilience, narrow inequalities and combat youth radicalization.
In this regard, they explored the possibility of establishing a closer cooperation in the area of education and skills, with a view to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Irina Bokova also expressed appreciation for the attention given by the Forum to cultural heritage under attack, noting that its systematic destruction was tantamount to erasing our shared identity and history, and an integral dimension of the humanitarian crisis.
The Forum, she said, had provided a unique platform for understanding, dialogue and partnership on a wide range of complex and interrelated global issues.
