UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, is on an official visit to Cuba from 27 to 30 November. During this visit, the Director-General is expected to meet with several government officials including the Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Culture and the Rector of the University of Arts, Rafael Bernal and Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velazquez Cobiella.
During her visit, Irina Bokova will visit the renowned International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV de San Antonio de los Baños – EICTV) where she will meet with the Director of the school, Rafael Rosal, and address the students. The Director-General will also inaugurate a photo exhibition dedicated to the underwater cultural heritage in the Castillo de la Real Fuerza museum in Old Havana, a site inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1982. She is expected to make a strong case for the role of culture in sustainable development and to build inclusive societies.
The Director-General is also expected to meet with the world famous dancer and choreographer UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Alicia Alonso, UN Resident Coordinator, Barbara Pesce Monteiro, and the President of the Cuban National Commission to UNESCO, Juan A. Fernandez.
