On June 25th, 2014 in Azraq, the Department of Antiquities of Jordan (DoA) launched the Qusayr ‘Amra’s Site Management Plan. This document was developed by the DoA and the World Monuments Fund (WMF) as part of the joint Project for the conservation of Qusayr ‘Amra World Heritage Site. This represents a key milestone towards the sustainable preservation and development of the site, something that UNESCO strongly supports and advocates for. The Plan will also allow Jordan to align with international conservation and management standards for all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The Qusayr ‘Amra Conservation Project has been active in Jordan since 2011 as a fruitful collaboration between the DoA, the WMF and the Italian Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione e il Restauro (ISCR). To date, the Project has resulted in the conservation of the monument’s Western aisle and apodyterium (changing room), which are now revealed in their original unique colors and patterns.
