The International Council for Science (ICSU) has released a call for full proposals to host the permanent secretariat of Future Earth, a 10-year international research programme dedicated to generating new knowledge for challenges posed by global environmental change and transitions towards global sustainability.
Future Earth will answer fundamental questions about how and why the global environment is changing, what are likely future changes, what are risks and implications for human development and the diversity of life on Earth, and what the opportunities are to reduce risks and vulnerabilities, enhance resilience and innovation, and implement transformations to prosperous and equitable futures.
Following the expression of interests step (July-September 2013) and a bidders’ conference (November 2013), the call for full bids is open to all those who were judged by the selection committee to have submitted credible expressions of interest and were invited to participate in the bidders’ conference.
A background document (.pdf) laying out the requirements for the secretariat and the selection process is available. Eligible consortia that wish to submit a full proposal to host the Future Earth Secretariat are required to send their proposal in a single PDF document, using the template provided by email to contact(at)futureearth.info with the subject ‘secretariat’ by March 31st 2014, 23:59 CET.
As part of proposals for full bids, new organisations can be engaged by existing eligible bidders. Additional regional bidders who are interested in getting involved should email contact(at)futureearth.info with subject ‘secretariat’ for further details. They will be put in contact with the existing relevant regional bidders and consortia. The selection committee particularly welcomes additional interest from African, Central Asian and Pacific Island organisations.
