It has been 28 years since, the Criança Esperança Programme was created. So far, more than 270 million reais in donations have been invested in Brazil in more than 5 thousand social projects. These contributions have guaranteed the rights of more than 4 million children and adolescents. They have helped the country to reduce mortality rates of children and adolescents, as well as child labour. It has also contributed to the struggle against sexual exploitation of girls and boys and to the preparation of disadvantaged youth to be included in the labour market.
Criança Esperança is an initiative of Globo TV in partnership with UNESCO. Its objective is to call attention of the public opinion on the status of childhood and youth by bringing to discussion some of the critical problems that affect children, adolescents and youth in Brazil.
Every year, the campaign mobilizes Brazilians to donate resources that are invested in social projects in all parts of country. In 2013, the Criança Esperança Programme is sponsoring 86 projects directly benefiting 32 thousand children and adolescents.
It is possible to make donations any time of the year in any of the 20 thousand lottery shops of Brazil and through the Criança Esperança website (in Portuguese).
