Description: The traditional musical form known in Azerbaijan as Mugham is a highly structured system characterized by a large degree of improvisation. Considered the classical music of Azerbaijan, Mugham draws upon popular and bard melodies. It features a male or female singer accompanied by musicians playing traditional instruments, especially the tar (a long-neck 11-string lute), the kamancha (a four-string spiked fiddle) and the daf (a sort of large tambourine). This performance took place at UNESCO during the Second Proclamation of Intangible Masterpieces.
