Description: Within the framework of the International Campaign launched by unesco in 1960 to save the monuments of Nubia, the salvage of philae marks the culmination of this largest campaign in support of safeguarding the human heritage. following the construction of the aswan High Dam, these temples were threatened with ruin and so at the egyptian Government's request, a group of experts was set up. It was decided to dismantle and re - ercet the monument on the neighbouring island of Agilkia which is sufficiently elevated to be above the maximum water level. Unesco then launched an international campaign on 6 November 1968 and the works were carried out under the supervision of the Egyptian Antiquities Organization. The inauguration of the new site is planned to take place on 10 March 1980.
