Internet Governance Glossary (IGG)

Macrostructure of the IGG entries

For the macrostructure of the glossary entries, the IG dimensions, largely following the widely accepted IG dimensions, suggested themselves as major differentiation aspects for structuring the IGG. Therefore, the glossary part is sub-divided into 5 sections in line with the IG dimensions, each preceded by a short introduction. They are followed by Section VI comprising the types of stakeholders, while Section VII contains proper names of existing organizations, forums, networks, groups, conferences, regulations and legal instruments:

  • I. Internet governance in general

  • II. Infrastructure and standardization

  • III. Economic dimension

  • IV. Legal dimension

  • V. Development and socio-cultural dimension

  • VI. Stakeholders

  • VII. Organizations, forums, networks, groups, conferences, regulations and legal instruments

The sections I to V, while largely following the widely accepted IG dimensions, were modified for IGG purposes to the extent that

  • a ‘meta-dimension’ “Internet governance general” was introduced,

  • the development line and sociocultural lines were merged into one dimension,

  • the dimension of stakeholder categories was added.

The IGG, as it is, contains so much useful data in user-friendly presentation, that it could be used as an educational resource (e.g. as open educational resource – OER).
