XXXVII Meeting of National Coordinators of the Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education
The objectives of this meeting are to review the progress of the actions conducted by the technical coordination of LLECE and to agree upon the laboratory’s upcoming initiatives, specifically those related to the Fourth Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE). In addition, issues of strategic interest to the laboratory will be discussed.
The first day of the event will be focused on an open national conversation to explore educational assessment and the use of the resulting data for the design of public policies in light of Costa Rica’s experience.
The LLECE national coordinators will meet on the second and third days to address technical counterpart functions with partners who are implementing the curricular analysis, construction of instruments and sampling and general strategic support components for the tasks linked to ERCE.
The event is being held in the context of the mandate received by the ministers of education of Latin America and the Caribbean, who met in Argentina in February 2017. The Buenos Aires Declaration issued as a result of the “Education and Skills for the 21st Century” meeting sets out a clear roadmap for LLECE as a regional project and mechanism for monitoring the Education 2030 Agenda.
In that document, the ministers of the region stated that they will strengthen and diversify the national assessment and monitoring mechanisms of E2030 and that they will use the results obtained from said assessments and apply them to public policies for improving the quality of education. Furthermore, the ministers made a commitment to “reinforce the current regional learning assessment system coordinated by the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean” through the laboratory.
