World Science Day for Peace and Development: celebration in Montenegro
Established by UNESCO in 2001, World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated globally on 10 November each year. The motivation behind World Science Day is twofold: one is to create an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between science and society and secondly to ensure that citizens are kept abreast about the developments in science, while highlighting and promoting the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the sciences. This year is no exception.
Within the UN International Year of Water Cooperation 2013 declared by the UN General Assembly (Resolution A/RES/65/154), UNESCO has dedicated its World Science Day to underline the importance of water in all of its various aspects.
World Science Day for Peace and Development will be celebrated for the first time in Podgorica. A round table will take place on Monday 11 November 2013 at the Rectorate building of the University of Montenegro in Podgorica to promote UNESCO’s World Science Day and will address this year’s subtheme: Science for Water Cooperation: Sharing Data, Knowledge and Innovations.
With the participation of the Montenegrin Minister of Science, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism, as well as qualified national experts on different water issues will speak about science and water cooperation and how it reflects in this country.
