World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every year on 18 December. On this occasion, Naseer Shamma, renowned Iraqi musician and UNESCO Artist for Peace, will be performing an Oriental Jazz concert at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, in Room I, on 19 December 2017.

Naseer Shamma will be accompanied by
• Amine Bouhafa (Piano), Tunisian multi-awarded composer, orchestrator and musical director;
• Jorge Bezeera (Percussion), internationally renowned Brazilian percussionist; and
• Ali Shaker (Zither), Iraqi Zither player.

The artists come together in this performance to carry the message of peace, safety and harmony, resonating with the values promoted by UNESCO for interreligious dialogue and peace.

A Round Table on Arabic Language and the New Technologies (18-19 December) and an exhibition will also be organized.

This celebration also resonates with the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022), for which UNESCO is the lead UN Agency.
