UNESCO in partnership with Development Communication Society-(SODEC)-Nepal is organizing an initial one-day workshop with stakeholders with various experts of journalists’ safety with the aim to brief the participants on the JSI/MDI methodology and to discuss the modalities of their implementation in Nepal.
The workshop will be preceded and followed by working meetings with the National experts and UNESCO JSI coordinator from the Headquarters. The meeting will be attended by a total of 50 persons including professional media associations, journalists, media entrepreneurs, academics, representatives of security sector institutions, the government and the judiciary. The workshop is organized to carry a comprehensive analysis of the national media safety landscape for journalists in Nepal on the basis of the Journalists Safety Indicators endorsed by the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity. The assessment will result in an evidence-based baseline about the state of media safety and impunity in Nepal.
