Workshop to Develop Questions for the Fourth Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE, 2019)
This workshop will provide training on drafting questions for the learning achievement tests used for the pilot of the fourth ERCE, to be conducted in 2018 by the Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (Laboratorio Latinoamericano de Evaluación de la Calidad de la Educación, LLECE).
The training will provide specific guidelines for the three main areas of evaluation at the primary level: language (reading and writing), math and natural sciences. Three specialists from each technical team of each of LLECE´s 19 partner countries will participate.
Attendees will take part in different technical sessions. The topics of these sessions will include: understanding quality criteria for the questions and corresponding rubrics, learning about methods for reducing potential bias when selecting questions for the final version of the test and recommendations for avoiding bias from their construction. Among other important decisions, participating countries will agree upon dates and goals for the production of these questions, as well as sending and selecting procedures.
The activity is structured in theoretical and practical sessions where the main results of the curriculum analysis by the Center for Advanced Education Research (Centro de Investigación Avanzada en Educación, CIAE) will be presented. Training on the process of constructing questions will also be provided by the MIDE-UC Center, with the support of the Chilean Educational Quality Assurance Agency and under the supervision of the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago).
