Uganda: UNESCO Policy Board and Management Meeting on ICTs and Disabilities
UNESCO and UNICEF in close cooperation with local and national organizations in Uganda have been implementing a programme on the use of Assistive Technologies to ensure inclusive education and the Access to information for people with disabilities in Uganda. This activity is organized within the framework of UNESCO’s Actions to enable universal access and promote the rights of persons with disabilities in Uganda.
During the meeting, the following will be discussed:
a) Policy on use of inclusive ICT education/ ICT and Disability Policy;
b) Update on the policy for ICT equipment procurement and guidelines for the production of accessible resources;
c) Uganda and the Marrakech Treaty (Uganda Registration Services Bureau);
d) Capacity Building for various stakeholders;
e) Update on Information and educational material in accessible format for persons living with disabilities;
f) Mechanism for exchange of accessible information resources for inclusive education; and
g) Follow-up to evaluation and monitoring instrument developed to track progress towards implementation of policies on Assistive Technologies to ensure Inclusive Education and Access to Information
The meeting will attract participation of representatives from Ministry of ICT, Uganda Technological and Management University (UTAMU), Uganda Registration Services Bureau, UNICEF, United Nations University (UNU), and UNESCO.
