Twenty-eighth Session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission's Assembly
The Assembly is the principal organ of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. The Assembly sessions gather every two years IOC Member States (147 at this date), partner organizations and representatives of UN organizations.
The Assembly establishes general Policy and the main lines of work of the Commission. During the course of its session, the Assembly will renew its Bureau and the composition of the IOC Executive Council (40 Member States) through elections.
The Assembly will be preceded by a one-day session of the Executive Council acting as the Steering Committee for this Assembly session and, for the first time, a one-day scientific forum (IOC Ocean Science Forum, 2015).
During this session, the Assembly will decide on the modalities of the IOC participation in the second International Indian Ocean Expedition, the International Polar Partnership Initiative; it will adopt its Capacity-building strategy for 2016-2021 and the draft programme and budget for 2016-2017.
