Training on raising capacity to produce radio programmes for Mangelete FM correspondents
UNESCO will support Mang’elete community radio to carry out a 2 day training workshop of its correspondents on raising capacity to produce radio programmes in Mtito Andei, Kenya. The training will attract participation of 8 community radio staff.
It aims at equipping the correspondents with knowledge and skills that will enable then to produce radio programmes that can be aired at the radio station. The training comes in timely as it will be preceded by a one month radio programme on environmental conservation set to begin late April 2014. This radio programme aims at educating Mang’elete community members on the dangers of deforestation thus help curb the habit of cutting down trees for use in making wood carvings, fire wood, and charcoal. The programme will bring together community members and local leaders to engage on round table discussions in order to analyze the root cause of this habit and ways to reduce it.
This training is part of UNESCO’s ongoing initiative of building capacities of community radios in Kenya under the ongoing SIDA project “Empowering Community radio’s with ICTs.”
