Sixth annual regional meeting on ESD organized by UNESCO Jakarta with key invitees from 5 cluster countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste.

UNECO Office Jakarta has closely worked with the cluster countries from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Timor Leste and Indonesia in the implementation of ESD in respective countries. Some achievement has been made and reported during the 5th ESD meeting in 2016. The partnership with multi-stakeholders on the implementation of ESD is necessarily required to improve the quality of the program. To scale up the implementation of ESD in all levels and areas of education and learning, into national, region, and global frameworks, there is an urgent call for countries to share preparedness and readiness with Post-2015 ESD policy and programming. By exchanging individual country experiences, we can share prioritize areas of action, identify solutions to challenges and share resources. This collaboration also serves to form the foundation of a framework for regional ESD policy, strategy and implementation.

ESD Meeting is one of platform aims to share the best practice and lesson learned of the implementation of ESD. The meeting also will come with the recommendation and joint action to achieved SDGs Goal 4: Quality Education that can be adopted and implemented in different areas and approaches. Mataram City, Indonesia has been selected to host the meeting because of Indonesian ESD Piloting Project namely AGSI and Sustainable Kampung piloted in this area and also the government of Mataram City has shown its strong commitment to support ESD Program by allocating the financial budget and integrating the educational program into the mid-term development plan.

Objectives
- Sharing country preparedness on national-level ESD policy and programming, including policy development and implementation, Climate Change Education and Green Schools
- Overseeing the progress of ESD Implementation in UNESCO’s Cluster Countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam and Timor Leste)
- Showcasing the lesson learned of AGSI Schools and Sustainable Kampung initiative in Indonesia
- To share the best practice of ESD initiatives organized by community and local government
