Session on Build Back Better – Live to Tell at the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management
The Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management (PPDRM) is a conference annually organized by UNISDR and SPC. The event represents a unique opportunity for governments to reaffirm their commitments to the international framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR), and serves as a forum for stakeholders to exchange information on progress in its implementation. This year, PPDRM will be held in Suva from 24–26 October 2016 with its focus on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR and the integration of DRR in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015-2030).
UNESCO will organize a session on Build Back Better – Live to Tell in cooperation with the Vanuatu and Fijian government. The objectives of the session are to share progress in implementation of the Sendai Framework as it relates to cultural heritage and institutions in Pacific island states through cases of Tropical Cyclone Pam (Vanuatu) and Winston (Fiji) and to discuss the contribution of the culture community to the Pacific Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework. Blue Shield Pacific (BSP) will also make a presentation on its activities and the exhibition on Live to Tell at the Fiji Museum.
