Second Workshop in Mongolia for the Preservation of the Shoroon Bumbagar Necropolis and its Mural Paintings
Within the framework of the UNESCO/Monaco cooperation agreement, a workshop on the stabilization of the archaeological tomb and preservation and conservation of ancient mural paintings at the site of Shoroon Bumbagar will be held in Bayannuur from 5-17 September 2016.
This workshop is jointly organized by UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO and the Center of Cultural Heritage of Mongolia.
This practical workshop is the continuation of the stabilization workshop held last October. Based on the theoretical sessions organized last year and inspection results, the forthcoming on-site workshop will focus on practical field exercises. Two renowned international experts, a painting conservator/restorer and a hydro-geologist will lead a selected group of national professionals to acquire preservation skills of mural paintings in the tomb and the knowledge of water movements for archaeological preservation.
