Second Arab Regional Meeting on SDG4-Education 2030 (ARMED II)
Further to the adoption of the first Arab Regional Roadmap for SDG4 - Education 2030 in December 2015 in Cairo, ARMED II is organized to take stock of the first year of the implementation of the Education Agenda in the region and to decide on an action plan for 2017/2018.
In December 2015, Arab Member States and partners gathered in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss and agree on how best to operationalize the Framework for Education 2030 to integrate SDG 4 agenda into national education development efforts. The result of the Cairo meeting was the adoption of the Arab Regional Roadmap for SDG 4 – Education 2030, whereby Member States committed to taking a set of nine actions and partners, in their collective efforts, agreed to support Member States through a set of eight action points.
More than one year down the road, time has come for Member States and partners to convene once again to review and reflect on the implementation of the first year of the new agenda, to plan concrete actions for 2017/18 as well as to share and learn from experiences and practices. In addition, the regional meeting will provide a platform to update Member States on global and regional actions undertaken to date. Furthermore, the meeting of senior technical officers and officials who coordinate/act as focal point for SDG 4 at national level will have an opportunity to discuss key issues and themes central to SDG 4, such as skills, learning, inclusion and equality.
As such, UNESCO and Regional Center for Educational Planning, a UNESCO Category II Center (Sharjah, UAE), will organize the Second Regional Meeting on SDG 4 (ARMED II) in Dubai, UAE on 6 and 7 March.
