Science, Technology and Society in the Light of Niels Bohr's Thoughts
UNESCO is participating to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Bohr’s seminal articles on his model of the atom, from 4 to 9 December 2013.
In 1985, UNESCO minted a gold medal to commemorate the centenary anniversary of Niels Bohr, one of the most eminent scientists of the 20th century. Born in Denmark, in 1885, he is considered the father of quantum physics. His lifetime achievements and his ethics have influenced the mandates and programmes of UNESCO.
The conference has three central themes that link Bohr’s thoughts and initiatives to the world of today and tomorrow:
- Technological ruptures and political implications
- Open and regulated flows of ideas and knowledge
- Science-policy interface to ensure timely action
