Science and policy are intertwined to combat climate change. This COP21 side-event will be a dialogue among scientific and policy-related stakeholders on the role of science in the climate change policy-making process.
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO will contribute to the event as an accredited agency under UNFCCC, with emphasis on the El Niño and how ocean observation can bolster climate science.

IOC Executive Secretary, Vladimir Ryabinin, will focus his intervention on the following subject: "The Ocean – a Victim and a Key Part of the Solution to Climate Change".
