Rwanda outreach seminars on journalists' rights with security organs

This activity is a follow-up to the previous media –police dialogues supported by UNESCO and bringing together the media and high ranking officers of Rwanda National Police (RNP) on safety of journalists and public order. The seminars are meant to enhance knowledge on rights of journalists among Police officers at regional level to promote safety of journalists and free access to information. The participants include District Police Commanders (all), Police Officers in charge of Community Policing, Regional Police Spokespersons, Police Station commanders (all), DASSO coordinators and deputies, Journalists working in the area.
The seminar will be conducted in 4 provincial regions bringing together RNP, DASSO Officers including media practitioners serving in those regions. The activity is aimed at disseminating knowledge on journalist’s rights and duties on the basis of the code of ethics of media practitioners and media related legal instruments. The sessions are scheduled to take place on the following dates:
o In the Eastern Province, Wednesday 7th June 2017;
o In the Northern Province, Tuesday 20th June 2017;
o In the Southern Province, Wednesday 21st June 2017;
o In the Western Province, Thursday 22nd June 2017.

At least 70 participants are expected to attend each of the 4 seminars aimed at benefiting a total of 280 participants.
