UNESCO is organising an Inception workshop for its SIDA funded project themed “Empowering Local Radios with ICTs” and scheduled to take place on 14 and 15 October 2015 at the Hilltop Hotel and the Country Club in Kigali, Rwanda. During this event, the participants will learn more about the project and its expected results, as well as measures put in place to ensure the smooth implementation of this project.
Three roundtable discussions will provide community radio practitioners with an opportunity to interact with stakeholders on a number of issues including how to leverage the potential of ICTs to empower community radios in Kenya; community radio and infrastructure; and, strengthening networking among journalists and with relevant stakeholders.

The workshop will attract participants from the Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA), Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO, Media High Council, Rwanda Media Commission, Ministry of Youth and ICT in Rwanda, Rwanda Telecentre Network, Rwanda Community Radio Network (RERAC), Radio Izuba FM, Huguka FM, Radio Isangano FM, and Radio Ishingiro FM.

This event is part of UNESCO’s ongoing SIDA funded project themed: “Empowering Local Radios with ICTs” (2015-2017) that aims at building capacities of radio practitioners in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
