Presentation of the World Water Development Report 2016 at the European Parliament
The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) will present the conclusions of the UN World Water Development Report 2016 entitled "Water and Jobs" at the European Parliament on this occasion.
According to the report, three out of four of the jobs worldwide are water-dependent. In fact, water shortages and lack of access may limit economic growth in the years to come.
The United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR) is the UN’s flagship report on water. It is published each year with a focus on different strategic water issues. In its analysis of the economic impact of access to water, the 2016 World Water Development Report on Water and Jobs cites numerous studies that show a positive correlation between investments in the water sector and economic growth. It also highlights the key role of water in the transition to a green economy.
A detailed description will follow soon.
The development of the WWDR, coordinated by WWAP, is a joint effort of the UN agencies and entities which make up UN-Water, working in partnership with governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.
