Presentation of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2016 in Perugia
During this event, The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) will give an official presentation of the UN World Water Development Report 2016 entitled "Water and Jobs" in Perugia.
The event will start with institutional welcome remarks by representatives of Region Umbria, the mayor of the City of Perugia, of the University of Perugia, the University of Foreigners of Perugia, the UNESCO Chair on Water and Culture in Perugia, and the Director of UN WWAP. This will be followed by the presentation of the UN World Water Development Report 2016. A high-level panel debate (tbc) will take place. A keynote speech will be delivered by Giorgio Federici, as well as an award ceremony to confer prizes to participants of the UNESCO heritage site Digital Crowdmapping competition. Before coming to the conclusions of the conference, the screening of two short movies of the Water Rooms Project will take place.
According to the report "Water and Jobs", three out of four of the jobs worldwide are water-dependent. In fact, water shortages and lack of access may limit economic growth in the years to come.
The United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR) is the UN’s flagship report on water. It is published each year with a focus on different strategic water issues. In its analysis of the economic impact of access to water, the 2016 World Water Development Report on Water and Jobs cites numerous studies that show a positive correlation between investments in the water sector and economic growth. It also highlights the key role of water in the transition to a green economy.
The development of the WWDR, coordinated by WWAP, is a joint effort of the UN agencies and entities which make up UN-Water, working in partnership with governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.
