The pivotal role of water in climate change adaptation and mitigation (UN WATER Side Event at COP21)
UNESCO is part of the coordination of the UN-Water Side Event "The pivotal role of water in climate change adaptation and mitigation" that aims at raising awareness on the centrality of water for climate change adaptation and mitigation and the role the United Nations system can play in assisting countries in this regard. It will present successful cases to adapt water management and water services to climate change.
UN-Water is the United Nations inter-agency coordination mechanism that acts in the field of water resources, providing the platform to address water-related issues. UNESCO is an active member of UN Water leading the UN-wide World Water Development Report, and particularly active in the areas of freshwater resources, sanitation and water-related disasters and at the Integrated Monitoring of Water and Sanitation Related SDG targets.
UNESCO-IHP is part of the leading organizations in charge of coordinating the UN-Water Side event: “The pivotal role of water in climate change adaptation and mitigation”. This will be a 90 min event presenting experts in the UN-Water main topics, to inform participants and UNFCCC negotiators on the centrality of water in adaptation to climate change and about possible good practices in this regard.
The event will take place during COP21 at Le Bourget at the Conference area.
