UNESCO in partnership with Federation of Nepalese Journalists and International Media Support is organizing a national conference on Self-censorship within the framework of the project ‘Increasing the Safety of Journalists’. A wide range of participants from different national and international organizations including professional media associations, journalists, media entrepreneurs, human rights defenders will attend the conference to analyse the root causes, consequences of self-censorship the journalists practice in Nepal and ways to tackle them.
The participants will also discuss on the findings of the regional and online consultations. William Horsely, from Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM), University of Sheffield Iqbal Khattak of International Media Support, Pakistan, Edward Pittman from Open Society Foundations, Laxman Datt Pant from UNESCO, Mahendra Bista from FNJ will make their presentations on different aspects of the media safety and self-censorship.
