National Consultation on the Sustainability of Commmunity Radio in El Salvador
The National Consultation will focus on generating recommendations on the development of public policies needed to support community radio. The event is being organized against the backdrop in changes to the Law on Telecommunications that among others, formally recognize community radio.
The organizing of this event in El Salvador is based on UNESCO's belief that the media play a fundamental role in promoting freedom of expression, freedom of the press and pluralism, including the development of programs on the perspectives of women and The girls.
UNESCO continues to promote the development of community radio sustainability by launching the Community Media Sustainability Policy Series. The Series cover the following areas: Definition of Community Broadcasting; Formal Recognition; Licensing and Systems; Reserving Spectrum; and Providing Public Funds.
