Museum festival including the screening of the new documentary film "Kollwitz – Ein Leben in Leidenschaft" by Sonya and Yury Winterberg (8 July 2017)
On 8 July 2017, the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum Cologne welcomes visitors to enjoy a great day out for the entire family.
Centred around the “Gustav Seitz – A Memorial for Käthe Kollwitz”– jubilee exhibition and framed by portraits and self-portraits from the Cologne Kollwitz collection, the museum will be offering fascinating guided tours and exciting workshops for Kollwitz fans of all ages.
The highlight of the day will be the screening of the new documentary “Kollwitz – Ein Leben in Leidenschaft” by Yury and Sonya Winterberg followed by a discussion with the authors.
Yury and Sonya Winterberg’s documentary is the portrayal of an artist who defies ordinary categorisation and whose work is both timeless and topical. This documentation on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Käthe Kollwitz’ birth is a biographical portrait as well as an historical exploration of the reception of the artist’s work and its impact. The film also features, for the first time, Kollwitz’ grandchildren – now at an advanced age – who accompanied their grandmother during her last few days at Moritzburg (A Looks production in collaboration with rbb and Arte, 2016).
