Mr Boutros Boutros-Ghali - A Visionary committed to the service of Peace and Development
A tribute Symposium dedicated to the memory of Dr Boutros Boutros-Ghali will take place on 17 October 2016 from 6 p.m. to 7.30pm in Room II at UNESCO Headquarters.
This tribute is dedicated to the vision and action of Dr Boutros Boutros-Ghali in favor of Peace and Development. During the Ceremony, a number of high-level speakers will notably testify the universal meaning and continuing relevance of his Agenda for Peace, and of his Agenda for Democracy and Development, which are closely linked to UNESCO's mandate.
Indeed, Boutros Boutros-Ghali was a diplomat who headed the United Nations in an era marked by major upheavals and unprecedented challenges. His Agendas for Peace (June 1992), for Development (May 1994), and for Democracy (December 1996) have established pioneering concepts which legacy continues today. Thus, the Sustainable Development Program for 2030, adopted in September 2015, was largely inspired by the pioneering work of this great intellectual and diplomat. Through his unwavering commitment, Boutros Boutros-Ghali paved the way for the consolidation of peace and the establishment of a just Global Governance.
This tribute will take place on 17 October 2016 in parallel of the 200th session of the Executive Board (5-18 October 2016).
This event is co-organized by UNESCO and the Permanent Delegation of Egypt to UNESCO with the cooperation of the regional groups of UNESCO, including the Group of la Francophonie, the Arab Group and the African Group.
