Meeting of the International Scientific Committee of the Slave Route Project: Resistance, Liberty, Heritage
The ordinary meeting of the International Scientific Committee for the Slave Route Project: Resistance, Liberty, Heritage will be held in Mexico City (Mexico) from 19 to 21 November 2014.
This meeting, organized within the framework of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Slave Route Project, is funded by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (Mexico). It will discuss the achievements and new perspectives of the Slave Route Project, in particularly the actions to be taken in the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2014) proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. On this occasion, meetings with researchers, representatives of the civil society and policymakers in order to discuss the developments of scientific research and pedagogical material on slave trade, slavery and its consequences as well as the stakes of the International Decade, which theme is “recognition, justice and development”.
These exchanges will be focused on the UNESCO innovative and inclusive actions during the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024) and then on the concrete follow-up of the activities undertaken along with 2014 in the framework of the 20th anniversary of Slave Route Project, and particularly on the ceremony hold last 10 September. Moreover, interactive meetings with the local communities are also foreseen in order to inform and sensitize them on the objectives of this Decade.
