Launching of the Gallery at the Karanganyar Village, Borobudur in Magelang, Central Java
A launching event on 14 May 2014 to showcase and promote the gallery premises in Karanganyar Village, the locally made community-based products and a range of activities conducted at the premises. The event is organized within the framework of AusAID funded project entitled 'Revitalization of the Local Community Livelihood in Cultural Industries and Heritage Tourism'
The gallery launching event is organized within the framework of the AusAID funded project entitled 'Revitalization of the Local Community Livelihood in Cultural Industries and Heritage Tourism'. The project itself is aimed to support community livelihoods at Borobudur through the sustainable cultural tourism and the enhancement of creative industries, which if properly nurtured, developed and promoted, has the potential to employment creation, income generation and poverty reduction.
The establishment of the gallery and training center in Karanganyar Village, Borobudur is one of the significant results of the project. The next step will be to ensure its sustainability by supporting the community run the gallery in attracting tourist to the site, promoting local products and to make the place as a model that can be adopted by other local people in the area to create their own businesses.
The objectives of the Launching Event are:
- To showcase and promote the gallery premises in Karanganyar Village, the locally made community-based products and a range of activities conducted at the premises.
- To gather all key stakeholders and key players in Borobudur to encourage local cooperation in developing community-based heritage tourism as a tool for environmental conservation, rural development and poverty alleviation.
- To promote networking and other community contacts and businesses to generate new business ideas, sales leads and partnering opportunities.
- To show appreciation for the generous support from the Government of Australia, key government partners including the Government of Magelang and other supporters
