Launching Ceremony of UNESCO-TALKMATE 2017 Language Champion Challenge and Nanshan Forum for World View of Language Protection
In May 2016, UNESCO and TALKMATE started a partnership on the development of the UNESCO World Atlas of Languages in order to build a global platform that will contribute to safeguarding the world’s diverse linguistic, cultural and documentary heritage, in multiple languages, and to reinforce the UNESCO’s Recommendation concerning the Promotion of Universal Access and Multilingualism in Cyberspace (2003).
Oriented towards students, the campaign “Language Champion Challenge” builds a multi-lingual and cross-cultural platform to improve the youth’s global awareness of creativity.
Compared with other language campaigns, the 2017 campaign “Language Champion Challenge” aims to boost participation, authority of assessment and appreciation by the public. Richer in length, content and design, this international language campaign integrates competition, education, culture, performance innovation and interaction. This event draws the significance of cultural communication and encourages people from all lifestyles, especially young people to learn foreign languages. It also stimulates overseas students in China to learn Chinese and to know the Chinese culture better.
The Nanshan Forum is organized by the Center for the Protection and Research of Chinese Language Resources, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) to discuss the current situation of linguistic diversity and the worldview of language protection, which will trigger and foster new inspirations, new ideas and new opportunities for language protection.
