Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES): scoping meetings for the regional and sub-regional assessments
The purpose of the meeting is to develop the proposed scoping of the regional/sub-regional assessments for the consideration by the third IPBES Plenary to be held in January 2015.
The scoping meeting will first, based on ecological considerations, develop options for a regional and sub-regional structure and approach for the assessments.
Secondly, the meeting will develop the proposed substantive scope of the assessments, including common generic issues across regions, as well as more specific issues for each region/sub-region.
Lastly, the meeting will identify administrative implications of undertaking the assessment, including possible institutional partnerships in the regions by building where possible on existing initiatives.
Participation will be on the basis of Governments’ and other relevant Stakeholders’ nominations to regional experts groups reflecting the five UN regions.
UNESCO acts as a formal institutional affiliate of IPBES.
