The Exhibition HERstory displays the key facts and figures about women’s historical and current representation in the UN System and highlights inspiring and pioneering women who have made significant contributions and lasting achievements in the three main pillars of UN’s work: Peace and Security, Human Rights, and Development. First launched in UNHQ in December 2016, the Exhibition gives momentum to a long and successful advocacy efforts for advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. In UNESCO the Exhibition is presented within the framework the High-level Conference, “Women's Empowerment and Leadership” (30 June 2017), organized to launch the series of events under the initiative “UNESCO's Soft Power”
The Exhibition HERstory celebrates the leading women in the United Nations. It displays the key facts and figures about women’s historical and current representation in the UN System. It highlights inspiring and pioneering women who have been first to hold and succeed in the most senior positions in the UN System or who have made significant contributions and lasting achievements in the three main pillars of UN work: Peace and Security, Human Rights, and Development.

The Exhibition includes and gives prominent place to Ms. Irina Bokova as the first woman Director-General of UNESCO.
First launched in UNHQ in December 2016, the Exhibition gives momentum to long and successful advocacy efforts for advancing gender equality in the work of UN by using a highly visible platform to spotlight women’s great achievements within the framework of the work and development of the United Nations.

At UNESCO, the Exhibition is presented within the framework of the High-level Conference, “Women's Empowerment and Leadership” (30 June 2017), organized to launch the series of events under the initiative “UNESCO's Soft Power”. It makes a meaningful contribution to the exchange of ideas among the participants to the Conference - high-level personalities, engaging leaders and change-makers from different sectors and backgrounds, and highlights UNESCO’s role at the forefront of the international dialogue on gender equality and women's empowerment.

It comes at the crucial moment in the mandate of UNESCO’s Director-General Ms. Irina Bokova and illustrates her personal dedication, commitment and achievements in promotion of Gender Equality as one of two global priorities of UNESCO.
