This event recognises the one-year anniversary of the United Nations Secretary General's Global Education First Initiative.
The United Nations Secretary-General launched his Global Education First Initiative in September 2012 in order to put every child in school, improve the quality of learning and foster global citizenship. The Initiative has rallied together a broad spectrum of actors and spurred a global movement to put education at the heart of the social, political and development agendas.

The event heralding the one-year anniversary of the Initiative will bring together leaders from the international community to focus on how leadership and finance can provide more children with quality education opportunities.

Attendees include:
Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General
Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO
Jim Yong Kim, World Bank Group President
Gordon Brown, UN Special Envoy for Global Education
Desmond Tutu, former Archbishop and social justice activist
Heads of State from GEFI Champion Countries
